Buying Air Purifiers: Electronic Filterless Ionic Breeze Quadra, and HEPA
Buying an air purifier can be a tricky process, as every cleaner you look
at will claim to be flawless and one step ahead of the others. But the
more you examine your own needs the more you may lean towards one particular
model.
Electronic Air Purifier Buying air purifiers that are electronically powered is preferable, and the larger your room or home the larger the unit should be. Electronic air cleaners trap charged particles using an electrical field. These types of cleaners, like ionic models, produce levels of ozone, which is a lung irritant and can cause more problems than it causes, depending on the amount emitted. Filterless Air Purifier Many top models require filter replacements on a regular basis, some within 6 months. Filter and pre filter prices vary on the system, but can be anywhere from $50.00-$300.00. If you don’t want to incur additional costs then you might choose a cleaner that is filterless. The average filter for a modestly priced system, such as a Honeywell HEPA Filter, will cost less than $35.00 to replace. Not Such a Great Buy: Ionic Breeze Quadra The Ionic Breeze Quadra is an ionic generated filter system and does not require the replacement of filters. Instead the particles are charged and then attracted to a collector plate for easy cleaning. However, the Ionic Breeze Quadra tested poorly due to its small size, in relation to more powerful systems. Ionic Air Purifier Rating
Many small ionic air purifiers that you can buy for a few hundred dollars
tested as poorly with Consumer Reports as the Ionic Breeze Quadra air
purifier did. For the most effective performance, the higher priced ionic
air purifiers were recommended, as they produced the least amount of ozone
(or none at all) and cleared away the most pollutant particles. Pricier
models are expensive (up to $800.00 or more but are more effective because
of the size and power)HEPA Neutralizer Filtration Definition HEPA (high efficiency particulate absorbing) is a technology that is considered 99.97% effective at collecting particles 0.3 micrometers and larger. HEPA filters trap these particles by diffusion, impaction or interception depending on the air cleaner used. HEPA filters are considered industry standard and they are the most effective filters on the market. Anything that cannot prove itself to filter at the 99.97% rate or better, cannot be called a HEPA filter. Buying an air purifier doesn’t have to be complicated. But time and energy are required to do a careful study of the popular models and which one you really need for your home. |
